VUH • LISS • EE • AY — rooted in the Latin for “speed,” intertwining swiftness with joy and luxury. A name that didn’t exist until we invented it.

When Sarah Davies and Rube Bradfield decided to launch a boutique luxury real estate agency serving South Africa’s most exclusive properties, they came to GillyTech with the rarest kind of brief: nothing. No name, no logo, no colors, no website. A blank page — and a vision of redefining luxury real estate on the Cape.

We took the project from word-association exercises all the way to a live website at veliciae.com.

The Challenge

The South African luxury market is crowded with giants — Remax moves roughly 10,000 sales a year, Pam Golding 3,000 — plus sharp boutique players like Hardie Properties and Perfect Hideaways. A newcomer selling homes at R30 million and up, to clients who value privacy and prestige above all, has exactly one chance at a first impression.

The brand had to signal bespoke, curated exclusivity from day one — and it had to exist in full: name, identity, guidelines, collateral, and a digital presence worthy of the properties themselves.

Approach

Research First

We started with demographic research and a competitive analysis of nine agencies, mapping every player on a positioning matrix of bespoke service versus market dominance. The opening was clear: personalized, bespoke service paired with deep local expertise — a space the dominant players can’t occupy.

Finding the Name

A word-association study distilled the brand to four descriptors: Natural, Curated, Vibrant, Glowing. From a shortlist of nine invented names, one stood apart: Veliciae — swiftness wrapped in joy and refinement. The .com was available, and no competitor on earth shared the name.

Building the Identity

The brand stands on three pillars — Bespoke Excellence, Dynamic Fluidity, Curated Exclusivity — inspired by the natural flow of Cape Town’s coastline. The visual system followed: a serif logotype with primary, secondary and icon variants; a palette of Champaign, Gold, Black and Off-White; and a type pairing of PF Marlet Display against Avenir Next. Every rule — clear space, minimum sizes, backgrounds, the don’ts — was documented so the brand survives contact with the real world.

The Website

The digital home brings it all together: a full-screen video loop of stunning properties and South African landscapes, listings browsable by location, pricing viewable in multiple currencies, and a design language pulled straight from the brand book — immersive, refined, unmistakably Veliciae.

Solution Highlights

  • Naming: A defensible, ownable invented name with a clean .com and zero competitors — backed by a documented naming study.
  • Complete Brand System: A 50-page brand book covering research, identity pillars, vision, logo suite, color, typography and usage rules.
  • Collateral Suite: Letterhead (SA legal-compliant), envelopes, UV-coated business cards, presentation folder, email signatures and signage guidelines.
  • Full Website: Video-hero design with location-based listing browsing and multi-currency pricing, live at veliciae.com.

The Results

Veliciae launched not as a startup finding its feet, but as a fully-formed luxury brand — one coherent system from the business card to the browser tab. Sarah and Rube walked away with a name they own outright, a brand book any future designer or printer can execute from, and a website that holds its own against agencies fifty times their size.
