Alvin Robinson of AR Fitness
Built on a shoestring in 2023. Still bringing him clients today.
Alvin Robinson is a competitive bodybuilder and personal trainer in Orange County, California. He has been training people for over a decade, and he is very good at it — the trophies in the photos are his. What he did not have was anywhere to send people who heard about him and wanted to know more.
He also did not have much of a budget. That is the whole brief, and it is a common one: a genuinely talented person who needs a real web presence and cannot spend thousands to get one.
The Approach
We put him on Squarespace. Not every project needs a custom build, and pretending otherwise would have cost Alvin money he did not have. Squarespace gave him a platform he could afford, that stays patched and online without a maintenance retainer, and that he can poke at himself without breaking anything.
Then we designed something that did not look like a template. One page, top to bottom. No menu to get lost in, no sub-pages nobody visits. A visitor lands, scrolls, and hits a call to action — that is the entire journey.
The design leans into who Alvin actually is: loud magenta-to-violet gradients, a heavy rounded typeface, orange call-to-action buttons, and angled section dividers instead of straight edges. Personal training is sold on personality, so we led with his.

Making the Photos Work
The hero image was built from one of his competition photos — cut out, dropped onto the gradient, and framed so the headline sits in the space under his arms. His own photography, used properly, is worth far more than stock images of a gym nobody recognises.

The Result
The site went live in 2023 and has barely been touched since. Alvin still loves it, and more to the point it still works: he continues to get people reaching out through it who found him, read the page, and decided he was the trainer they wanted.
That is the case for matching the build to the budget. A small, well-designed, honest one-page site that keeps producing enquiries three years later is a far better outcome than an expensive one he could not have afforded in the first place.
